My journey into the therapeutic world began in 2007. However, that journey had to be deferred as I was busy working in the business world and raising a family…
About me…
I bring to my practice the experience I gained from the business sector as my role incorporated all levels of communication and man management skills. Organisation, delegation, adaptability and flexibility were all competences I now find help towards the work I do with my clients. I studied a foundation degree in counselling and went on to complete a post graduate diploma in Psychosexual Therapy.
I am warm, friendly, and pragmatic. My belief is that change is inevitable throughout our lives, navigating that process can sometimes feel impossible. Therapy can help by offering a safe environment for reflection and clarity to your issues, allowing yourself time to work through what can sometimes feel like a long dark tunnel. Experiencing unconditional positive regard, empathy, and congruence in a safe non-judgmental environment.
Let's talk about youMy style of therapy is integrative. Psychological therapies generally fall into three categories.
These are:
Behavioural therapies.
Behavioural therapies, which focus on cognitions and behaviours. Identifying and challenging self-destructive patterns. I believe that behaviours are learned, and damaging behaviours can be changed.
Psychoanalytical and psychodynamic therapies.
Psychoanalytical and psychodynamic therapies focus on the unconscious thoughts and perceptions developed throughout childhood and how this can affect current behaviours and thoughts. This therapy looks to re-evaluate and change dysfunctional emotional development and attachment styles.
Humanistic therapies.
Humanistic therapies which focus on looking at the true self. Being aware of who you are in the here and now, being authentic.
By working in an integrative way, I ensure that all these techniques are incorporated in the most effective way for everyone.I am fully committed to my own personal and professional development as I believe this is key to being a competent practitioner.
